Geometry -  This course follows the mastery of math program which allows students to master the standards set by the state and to prepare students to pass the Geometry End of Course test given at the end of the year by the state of Arkansas. Geometry is designed to emphasize the study of the properties and applications of common geometric figures in two and three dimensions.  It includes the study of transformations and right triangle trigonometry.  Inductive and deductive thinking skills are used in problem solving situations, and applications to the real world are stressed.  It also emphasizes writing proofs and creating constructions to verify and prove the properties of geometric figures.  Students who complete Geometry should take Algebra II next.  Grades are weighted so that 10% of the grade is homework, 10% of the grade are quizes, and 80% of the  grade are tests.


Test cycles will be 4 days for each unit.  Each test cycle will be posted on the      board at least one week before the cycle begins.  Unit tests are given three times.   The first day is a unit  test review.  The second day is test A.  The third day is a second review.  The fourth day is test B.  Test C must be taken on the following Thursday after test B.  It will be given by the office as described in the student handbook.  Each test is divided into sections called Competencies.  When a student scores an 80% or higher on a competency, that section is considered mastered.  No partial credit will be given on tests A or B. Partial credit can be given for test C.  Competencies not mastered on tests A or B must be done on subsequent tests.  HOTS is the only section of the unit test that is not given 3 times.  Unit test grades will be compiled  from test A, B, C, and   HOTS in each unit.


Linear Algebra/Statistics/Finance -  This course is an introduction to statistical reasoning with an emphasis on concepts and traditional statistical methods. Topics include sampling and experimentation, descriptive statistics, probability, binomial and normal distributions, estimation, single sample and two sample hypothesis tests for means, proportions, and standard deviation.  We will also examine budgeting, the concept of interest as related to loans and credit cards, and the importance of saving money as we delve into the Finance part of this course.  

The use of a TI 84 calculator is needed. Classroom sets are available for use at school but one is recommended for home use.  Grades are weighted so that 10% of the grade is homework, 10% of the grade are group projects that use the concepts covered in each chapter, and 80% of the  grade are tests.

Algebra Remediation - This course is designed for students who finished their Algebra I credit in summer school and must take the Algebra End of Course test in January given by the state of Arkansas or for the student who didn't score a minimum of 200 points (proficient/advanced) on the Algebra ACTAAP given in May the year before.  Remediation is to reinforce the concepts and skills required to be proficient in Algebra I. This class is graded on a successful/unsuccessful grading scale and is not calculated into a student's GPA. The course does not receive credit needed for graduation. 


 

 

The what IF’s?

 For All  students:

  • If a student is absent,  they need to find out the assignment, get missing notes, and make up the homework.  If needed, they can arrange a time with me to go over the lesson before school, after school, or after the daily lesson is finished.

 

  • If a student misses a test other than a Geometry Unit test, they must make up that test on Thursday, before or after school as provided for by the office.

 

  • If a student is at school on Thursday but has an appointment after school, they must take the test before school or at lunch.

 

  • If a student is absent for any of the review days, they will take the test on the scheduled day.

 

 Geometry students only :

  • If a student is absent for tests A or B, they will take that test on the day they return for class.  They must get the notes and do the class assignment for that day also if applicable.

 

  • If a student is absent for test C, they must make arrangements with me to take the test within one week of that Thursday.

 

  • If a student does not take test C, they will receive a zero on all competencies not previously mastered on test A or B.

 

  • If a student masters a competency on test A and tries to do better on test B, their mastered score will remain the same unless it is bettered.  

 

  • If a student takes test C and does not master a competency, they will receive a score from 0 - 60% made on that competency from test C.  Competencies not mastered on tests A or B will not be considered for the unit test grade.
