Yesterday, students in Coach Mayes' and Mrs. Robinson's 6th-grade science classes created their clouds through an experiment. During their lab, students observed and described the formation of a "cloud" in a closed system. They explained how water evaporates and condenses to form clouds and how water changes form during the water cycle. Additionally, they connected the cloud formation in the lab to the water cycle in nature.
Ms. Hunter's class had visitors from FUMC in Russellville today. They brought a carved pumpkin, which the students were able to touch and see the inside of. They also learned about the pumpkin's life cycle. Laurie Caudell read stories to the class and worked on a craft. It was a Fun Friday at DMS! Thank you, FUMC Russellville!

This week in PLTW, students learned about accuracy, measurement, and two systems: U.S. Customary Standard and metric. They practiced using a ruler and reading dimensioned sketches, then created their own sketches. Students were able to build their own paper skimmers and then use their sketches. While working on paper skimmers, they measured distances traveled over three trials, recording data for analysis in the next lesson.

With a set amount of supplies, they creatively "ordered" materials to construct their AFOs. This group project was both challenging and enjoyable, and we are incredibly proud of their impressive efforts and the success of their first project!
